Why Should I Look for SSL in the Web Address?

Most web application that contain a login form (or ask for any other sensitive information) should connect using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

If the URL begins with https:// then the site is using SSL. If the URL begins with just http:// then it's not.

• Examine the page's URL to verify a site is using SSL.
• If the site is not using SSL, you should not submit any login or sensitive information until you confirm the site with your IT staff.

If your browser gives you any SSL-related warnings after you click on a link in an email, DO NOT CONTINUE and DO NOT ENTER any sensitive information into the site! This is often a sure sign something is wrong.
